By Assemblymember Duy Nguyen, Nevada State Assembly District 8
As a former corporate manager, small business advocate, and long-time public servant, I am honored to share my perspective with the members of the Retail Association of Nevada as I seek re-election to the Nevada State Assembly.
My journey began when my family immigrated to the United States from Vietnam. Like many Nevadans, I watched my parents work tireless hours to build a life from scratch. That upbringing instilled in me a deep respect for hard work, entrepreneurship, and the immense value that retail and local businesses bring to our state’s economy.
Before entering public office, I spent over two decades in the private sector and nonprofit executive leadership, holding management roles with major employers like MGM Resorts International, Cox Communications, Verizon, and Walmart, as well as leading the Asian Community Development Council. These experiences taught me a fundamental truth: the government does not create jobs, businesses do. The legislature’s role is to foster a stable, predictable environment where retail operators can thrive.
Rather than making grand campaign promises, I believe in letting my legislative track record speak for my commitment to Nevada’s economic health. Throughout my time in Carson City, I have focused on practical, common-sense solutions that bring people together to tackle complex challenges. I championed AB274 in 2023 and AB289 in 2025 to build financial literacy platforms that prepare young Nevadans to enter the workforce with real-world money management skills – an essential component for a strong consumer base and dependable workforce.
Furthermore, I worked to create vital synergy around AB98 in 2023 to modernize workforce development collaboration, aligning local education, state resources, and industry needs so businesses can hire qualified local talent.
My approach as a lawmaker will always remain balanced, collaborative, and grounded in economic reality. I am running for re-election to continue bringing people from both sides of the aisle together to solve complex issues, support our local job creators, and maintain an environment where Nevada’s retail sector can continue to grow. I ask for your vote and look forward to remaining a trusted partner for the Retail Association of Nevada.
