Bridging Medicine, Education, and Policy in Nevada

By Assemblymember Rebecca Edgeworth, Nevada State Assembly District 35

I represent Nevada’s 35th Assembly District as a practicing internal medicine physician, professor, and legislator, bringing more than two decades of community-based healthcare experience to my work in the Nevada Legislature. As a third-generation Nevadan, I was born and raised in Las Vegas, and Nevada has always been home. I completed my internal medicine residency through the University of Nevada, Reno at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Today, I am proud to combine my work as a physician, educator, and legislator with a lifelong commitment to caring for my community.

For me, caring for people has always meant more than treating an illness. It means meeting people where they are, listening to their stories, and making sure that people who are often overlooked have access to compassionate, quality healthcare. That commitment has shaped my medical career and the work I bring to Carson City.

I am a professor at Touro University Nevada, where I teach didactic and clinical medicine and help prepare the next generation of physicians and physician assistants. I regularly bring students into community outreach settings, giving them the opportunity to provide free medical care while learning firsthand about the challenges facing underserved populations. For me, teaching is also about instilling a lasting commitment to service and helping future healthcare professionals understand why their work matters.

For more than two decades, I have served Southern Nevada through community-based healthcare. I was Medical Director for Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada from 2012 to 2020 and continue to serve on its board while volunteering as a primary care physician. Since 2015, I have served as Medical Director for outreach with the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation and Medical Chair for Project Homeless Connect through the Nevada Homeless Alliance. I also serve on the board of Nevada Comagine Health and have served on the board of the Southern Nevada Homeless Continuum of Care.

My outreach work has taken me into communities where access to healthcare can be especially difficult. I have partnered with the Catholic Worker, HELP of Southern Nevada, Catholic Charities, The Shade Tree, and the Southern Nevada Health District. I have also provided free medical care through partnerships with the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas to expand access to care for people with limited resources.

First elected to the Nevada Assembly in 2024, I brought my firsthand experience with patients and healthcare providers to Carson City. During the 2025 legislative session, I sponsored legislation addressing mental health crisis response (AB 380), hospice care (AB 161), Medicaid provider fraud (AB 315), and barriers to dental care (AB 221). These bills all passed unanimously.

I am running for re-election to represent Assembly District 35. Whether I am caring for a patient, teaching a student, serving someone in need, or working in Carson City, I bring the same commitment to my work: ensuring every Nevadan has the opportunity to be heard, treated with dignity, and live a healthier life.
