Marijuana users in Nevada can now ingest cannabis in the form of an ice cold brew.

Two Roots Brewing Co. debuted its new line of marijuana beers Thursday at Las Vegas ReLeaf, 2244 Paradise Road. The products provide pot in 10-ounce cans of lager, stout, new west IPA, blonde ale and wheat style.

Made without alcohol, the beers contain relatively low amounts of THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in the plant that gives users a high. With options of 5 milligrams and 2 milligrams per can, the THC count in a Two Roots beer is 20 to 50 times less than the count of a standard marijuana-infused beverage. They’re sold only in packs of six, with the 5 milligram THC pack costing $38 and the 2 milligram THC pack $30.

Michael Hayford, CEO of Two Roots’ parent company Lighthouse Strategies, said the products were designed with social drinking in mind, not an instant high.

First-time cannabis users consuming a standard weed beverage sold at dispensaries will require one sip — or about 10 milligrams — of the 100 milligram beverage before ingesting the THC needed to feel stoned. The same goes for candy bars and other edibles, in which only a small fraction of the product can be safely consumed.

Hayford and company spokesman Kevin Love said the beers were designed so users could safely drink multiple beverages in one setting, like a cookout or watching a sporting event at home.

“Our goal was to have a lifestyle product in the cannabis space,” Love said. “You can bring that six-pack to a barbecue and crack one open with family.”

“You can get to where you want to get and build your tolerances responsibly,” Hayford added.

Hayford said the pot brews will soon be sold individually and will also be available in other Nevada dispensaries. The San Diego-based company, which owns and produces their Nevada-based pot products at Silver State Wellness edible facility, has not yet begun mass producing the marijuana beers, he said.
